Hollywood movies are regularly filled with sex and violence. They can be exciting films but sometimes all you want is a little light-hearted entertainment.61.______________

Have you heard of Bollywood? All singing, all dancing and unrealistic, it is the perfect alternative to normal Hollywood movies.Bollywood is the Indian film industry, based in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. Most Chinese school kids have probably never seen an Indian film.Yet Bollywood is the largest producer of films in the world. This year the Indian Filmgare Awards, Bollywood's Oscrs, turn 50 years old.62.___________

The typical Bollywood movie usually has the following ingredients: a cup of romance, a tea-spoon of comedy, a dash of international sight-seeing, served with a huge slice of singing and dancing. There will also be one brave hero, one beautiful heroine and one baddie. The result is a fun-filled musical.63.___________

There is never any mention of politics, poverty or war.The actors change clothes and locations within a single song. But the audience don't mind.To Indian movie lovers, especially the poor, such films are a gateway to heaven and the stars are their gods. The films take them to a magical world away from their everyday troubles. The films tell them the impossible is possible and that true love conquers all.64._____________

But, behind the beautiful scenes, Bollywood still emphasizes traditional family values. In most films, if two lovers want to break an arranged marriage, they can't just run away. They must win over their parents.65.___________

So if you're tired of all that Hollywood actions, check out the following Bollywood films. They will take you to a brighter, cheerier and more colourful world, where it's still cool to dance around a tree and sing a love song.

A.Manufacturing industry in information economy

B.News in the age of information

C.Argument about individual accounts and their reliability

D.Be your own investigative journalist

E.Don’t believe everything you read in the newspapers.

F.Information is presented in an entertaining way.

61._______

With the arrival of the age of “information economy”, intellectual work is becoming a more important source of wealth than manufacturing.Organizations in all walks of life are doing more to spread their information. So people of the Public Relations are hired to speak for them.A lot of our news is actually collected from press

releases and reports of events intentionally staged for journalists. In the information age, journalists spend their time, not investigating, but passing on the words of a spokesperson.

62._______

There is a joke in the novel Scoop about the newspaper’s owner, Lord Copper. The editors can never disagree with him. When he’s right about something they answer “definitely”, and when he’s wrong they say “to some extent, Lord Copper.” It seems reasonable to suppose that, in the real world, the opinions of such powerful people still influence the journalists and editors who work for them.

63._______

In countries where the news is not officially controlled, it may be provided by commercial organizations who depend on advertising. The news has to attract viewers and maintain its audience ratings.I suspect that some stories get air-time just because there happen to be exciting pictures to show.In Britain, we have the tabloid newspapers which millions of people read simply for entertainment. There is progressively less room for historical background, or statistics, which are harder to present as a sensational story.

64._______

There is an argument that with spreading access to the internet and cheap technology for recording sound and images we will all be able to find exactly the information we want.People around the world will be able to publish their own eye-witness accounts and compete with the widely-accepted news-gatherers on equal terms. But what it will mean also is that we’ll be subjected to a still greater amount of nonsense and lies.Any web log may contain the latest information of the year, or equally, a made-up story that you will never be able to check.

65._______

Maybe the time has come to do something about it, and I don’t just mean changing your choice of TV channel or newspaper. In a world where everyone wants you to listen to their version, you only have two choices: switch off altogether or start looking for sources you can trust. The investigative journalist of the future is everyone who wants to know the truth.

Twitter or micro-blogging, is really more of a social commons than a full-blown social network like MySpace or Facebook. It pretty much does one thing: allows people to “tweet” what they're up to(or what they're thinking about)in 140 characters or less.Since we're sticking with the “less is more” aesthetic, I'm just going to give you 5 Twitter tips instead of the 10 I could have stretched this into.61._____________

Say whatever you feel like saying, but remember that whatever you write could exist in the digital universe forever.Proceed with extreme caution.62.______________

If you like something they say, reply by clicking the little grey arrow that appears when you hover over one of their tweets. You can also simply type in @username(replacing “username” with whatever their username happens to be on Twitter). This is the formal way to address someone on Twitter.63._____________

Twitter has something called an API(Application Programming Interface), which allows programmers to create experiences around Twitter for the community.Because of this, there have been an amazing array of applications released that will allow you to manage your Twitter account easily. There's Twitterrific, TweetDeck, and Twhirl--just to name a few.64._____________

A(摘自温州中学月考)

Going to school means learning new skills and facts in such subjects as reading, math, science, history, art or music.Teachers teach and students learn, and many scientists are interested in finding ways to improve both the teaching and learning processes. Some researchers, such as Sian Beilock and Susan Levine, are trying to learn about learning.Beilock and Levine are psychologists at the University of Chicago.Psychologists study the ways people think and behave, and these researchers want to know how a person’s thoughts and behavior are related. In a new study about the way kids learn math in elementary school, Beilock and Levine found a surprising relationship between what female teachers think and what female students learn: If a female teacher is uncomfortable with her own math skills, then her female students are more likely to believe that boys are better than girls at math.“If these girls keep getting math-anxious female teachers in later grades, ,” Levine told Science News. The study suggests that if these girls grow up believing that boys are better at math than girls are, then these girls may not do as well as they would have if they were more confident.Just as students find certain subjects to be difficult, teachers can find certain subjects to be difficult to learn—and teach. The subject of math can be particularly difficult for everyone.Researchers use the word “anxiety” to describe such feelings: anxiety is uneasiness or worry.(Many people, for example, have anxiety about going to the dentist because they’re worried about pain.)

The new study found that when a teacher has anxiety about math, that feeling can influence how her female students feel about math. The study involved 65 girls, 52 boys and 17 first-and second-grade teachers in elementary schools in the Midwest. The students took math achievement tests at the beginning and end of the school year, and the researchers compared the scores. The researchers also gave the students tests to tell whether the students believed that a math superstar had to be a boy. Then the researchers turned to the teachers: To find out which teachers were anxious about math, the researchers asked the teachers how they felt at times when they came across math, such as when reading a sales receipt.A teacher who got nervous looking at the numbers on a sales receipt, for example, was probably anxious about math.Boys, on average, were unaffected by a teacher’s anxiety. On average, girls with math-anxious teachers scored lower on the end-of-the-year math tests than other girls in the study did.Plus, on the test showing whether someone thought a math superstar had to be a boy, 20 girls showed feeling that boys would be better at math—and all of these girls had been taught by female teachers who had math anxiety.According to surveys done before this one, college students who want to become elementary school teachers have the highest levels of anxiety about math.Plus, nine of every 10 elementary teachers are women, Levine said. This study was small, and it’s often difficult to see large patterns in small studies, David Geary told Science News.Geary, a psychologist at the University of Missouri in Columbia, studies how children learn math.“This is an interesting study, but the results need to be interpreted as preliminary and in need of replication with a larger sample,” Geary said. That means that the results are just showing something that might be happening, but more studies should be done.If more studies find the same trend as this one, then it’s possible that a teacher’s anxiety over math really is affecting her female students.50.Sian Beilock and Susan Levine carried out the new research in order to ______.A.know the effects of teaching on learningB.study students’ ways of learning math

C.prove women teachers are unfit to teach mathD.find better teaching methods for teachers

51.The underlined part in paragraph 4 most probably means that girls may ______.A.end up learning math with anxiety from their teachers

B.study the ways their female teachers behave

C.have an influence on their math-anxious female teachers

D.gain unexpected achievement in such subjects as math

52.In the study, what were the teachers required to do?

A.Prepare two math achievement tests for the students.B.Tell their feelings about math problems.C.Answer whether a math superstar had to be a boy.D.Compare the students’ scores after the math tests.53.What is the finding of the new study?

A.No male students were affected by their teachers’ anxiety.B.Almost all the girls got lower scores in the tests than the boys.C.About 30% of the girls thought boys are better at math than girls.D.Girls with math-anxious teachers all failed in the math tests.54.Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?

A.117 students and teachers took part in the new study.B.The researchers felt surprised at the findings of their study.C.Beilock and Levine are interested in teaching math.D.Men teachers are better at teaching math than women teachers.英语参考答案及评分标准。

第三篇:2014 届高考英语阅读理解:2013暑假练习题(14)

2014高考英语阅读理解:2013暑假练习题(14)及答案解析

A

Today, there’s hardly an aspect of our life that isn’t being upended(颠覆)by the tons of information available on the hundreds of millions of sites crowding the Internet, not to mention its ability to keep us in constant touch with each other via electronic mail.“If the automobile and aerospace technology had exploded at the same pace as computer and information technology,” says Microsoft, “a new car would cost about $ 2 and go 600 miles on a small quantity of gas.And you could buy a Boeing 747 for the cost of a pizza.”

Probably the biggest payoff, however, is the billions of dollars the Internet is saving companies in producing goods and serving for the needs of their customers.Nothing like it has been seen since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, when power-driven machines began producing more in a day than men could turn out in nearly a year.“We view the growth of the Internet and e-commerce as a global trend,” says Merrill Lynch, “along the lines of printing press, the telephone, the computer, and electricity.”

You would be hard pressed to name something that isn’t available on the Internet.Consider: books, health care, movie tickets, construction materials, baby clothes, stocks, cattle feed, music, electronics, antiques, tools, real estate, toys, autographs of famous people, wine and airline tickets. And even after you’ve moved on to your final resting place, there’s no reason those you love can’t keep in touch.A company called FinalThoughts.com offers a place for you to store “afterlife e-mails” you can send to Heaven with the help of a “guardian angel”.Kids today are so computer literate that it in fact ensures the United States will remain the unchallenged leader in cyberspace for the foreseeable(能预测的)future.Nearly all children in families with incomes of more than $75,000 a year have home computers, according to a study by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.Youngsters from ages 2 to 17 at all income levels have computers, with 52% of those connected to the Internet. Most kids use computers to play games(some for 30 hours or more a week), and many teenage girls think nothing of rushing home from school to have e-mail chats with friends they have just left. What’s clear is that, whether we like it or not, the Internet is an ever growing part of our lives and there is no turning back.“The Internet is just 20% invented,” says cyber pioneer Jake Winebaum.“The last 80% is happening now.”

51.What can we learn from the Microsoft’s remark?

A.Today’s cars and airplanes are extremely overpriced.B.Information technology is developing at an amazing speed.C.Information technology has reached the point where improvement is difficult.D.There’s more competition in information technology industry than in car industry.52.The author gives the example of FinalThoughts.com to make the point that____.A.there are some genius ideas on the Internet

B.almost anything is available on the Internet

C.people can find good bargains on the Internet

D.some websites provide novel services to increase hits

53.What can we learn from the fourth paragraph?

A.There is a link between income and computer ownership.B.Many American children don’t put computers to good use.C.Studies show that boys are more computer literate than girls.D.The U.S.will stay ahead in the information technology in years.54.Which sentence has the phrase that possesses the same meaning as the one underlined in the fifth paragraph?A.Some can tell you that he has changed their lives, while others think nothing of him.B.Think nothing of it.It was my pleasure.C.He thinks nothing of staying up all night in the Café bar.D.He thinks nothing of the pain in his back for the moment.55.What is the message the author intends to convey?

A.The Internet is going to get firm hold of our lives some day.B.The Internet is going to influence our lives even more greatly.C.We should have a positive attitude towards the changes the Internet brings.D.Children should be well prepared for the challenges in the information age.参考答案

D(临海市杜桥中学2012高三月考)

While it is impossible to live completely free of stress,it is possible to prevent stress as well as reduce its effect when it can’t be avoided. The US Department of Health and Human Services offers the following suggestions for ways to deal with stress.

◆Try physical activity

When you are nervous, angry or upset, try releasing the pressure through exercise or physical activity.Running, walking, playing tennis, and working in your garden are just some of the activities you might try.

◆Take care of yourself

You should make every effort to eat well and get enough rest.If you easily get angry and can’t sleep well enough,or if you’re not eating properly,it will be more likely that you will fall into stressful situations. If stress repeatedly keeps you from sleeping, you should consult a doctor.

◆Make time for yourself

Schedule time for both work and entertainment.Don't forget, play can be just as important to your overall well-being as work. You need a break from your daily routine to just relax and have fun.Go window-shopping or work on a hobby.Allow yourself at least a half hour each day to do something you enjoy.

◆Make a list of things to do

Stress can result from disorganization and a feeling that “there’s so much to do,and not enough time”.Trying to take care of everything at once can be too much for you and as a result, you may not achieve anything.Instead, make a list of everything you have to do,then do one thing at a time, checking off each task as it is completed.Set out to do the most important task first.

While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of labor, he returned to find his bike gone.

The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour a week to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries, saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live.

I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.

People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity as a whole. And it has influenced us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.

41.Why was the bike so important to the couple?

A. They used it for work and daily life.

B. It was their only possession.

C. It was a nice Kona 18 speed.

D. The man's job was bike racing.

42.What does the underlined phrase mean?

A. go very far to see someone

B. walk out on foot to greet someone

C. help someone with one’s best

D. enjoy the moment with someone

43.We can infer from the text that ________.

A. the couple worked 60 hours a week

B. people were busy before Christmas

C. the stranger brought over the bike

D. life was hard for the young family

44.How did people get to know the couple's problem?

A. From a stranger.

B. From a newspaper.

C. From TV news.

D. From radio broadcasts.

45.What do the couple learn from their experience?

A. Strangers are usually of little help.

B. One should take care of their bike.

C. News reports make people famous.

D. An act of kindness can mean a lot.

B

Green-space facilities are contributing to an important extent to the quality of the urban environment.Fortunately it is no longer necessary that every lecture or every book about this subject has to start with the proof of this idea.At present it is generally accepted, although more as a self-evident statement than on the base of a closely-reasoned scientific proof. The recognition of the importance of green-spaces in the urban environment is a first step on the right way;this does not mean, however, that enough details are known about the functions of green spaces in towns and about the way in which the inhabitants are using these spaces.

The theoretical separation of living, working, traffic and recreation which for many years has been used in town-and-country planning, has in my opinion resulted in disproportionate(不成比例的)attention for forms of recreation far from home, whereas there was relatively little attention for improvement of recreative possibilities in the direct neighborhood of the home.We have come to the conclusion that this is not right, because an important part of the time which we do not pass in sleeping or working, is used for activities at and around home.So it is obvious that recreation in the open air has to begin at the street door of the house. The urban environment has to offer as many recreation activities as possible, and the design of these has to be such that more obligatory(强制性的)activities can also have a recreative aspect.

The very best standard of living is nothing if it is not possible to take a pleasant walk in the district, if the children cannot be allowed to play in the streets, because the risks of traffic are too great, if during shopping you can nowhere find a spot of enjoying for a moment the nice weather, in short, if you only feel yourself at home after the street door of your house is closed after you.

46.According to the author, the importance of green spaces in the urban environment _______.

A.is still unknown

B.is being closely studied

C.is usually neglected

D.has been fully recognized

47.The theoretical separation of living, working, traffic and recreation has led to _______.

A.the disproportion of recreation facilities in the neighborhood

B.all of the recreation facilities far from home

C.relatively little attention for recreative possibilities

D.the improvement of recreative possibilities in the neighborhood

48.The author suggests that the recreative possibilities of green spaces should be provided

_______.

A.in special areas

B.in the suburbs

C.in the neighbourhood of the house

D.in gardens and parks

49.The author says “more obligatory activities can also have a recreative aspect” to _______.

A.suggest that obligatory activities don’t need to serious

B.show that recreation activities are very important

C.show how recreation activities have spread wildly

D.suggest how to offer recreation activities around home

50.Why would someone only feel himself at home according to the last paragraph?
