直接引语就是直接引用或复述别人所讲的话。直接引语一般放在引号之内。用自己的语言转述别人的话叫间接引语。间接引语一般用宾语从句或带动词不定式的复合宾语表达。下面我们主要介绍如何将直接引语转换为间接引语:
(1)间接引语的时态往往受引述动词的影响,如果动词是过去时,间接引语的时态通常也是过去的某种时态,同时将人称根据上下文进行调整,当引述词是过去式时,间接引语的时态变化如下表:

(3)如果直接引语是陈述句,在变为间接引语时,由连词that引导(that 可以省略)。主句中如果有say to somebody,通常变为tell somebody。例如:

格蕾丝告诉亚历克斯:“我要去购物,给我父母买些礼物。”

如果直接引语是两个并列的陈述句,变为间接引语时,第一个宾语从句前的that 有时可以省略,但第二个宾语从句前的that 不可省略。
