7.We walked down the path to the well-house, attracted by the fragrance of the honeysuckle with which it was covered.Some one was drawing water and my teacher placed my hand under the spout.As the cool stream gushed over one hand she spelled into the other the word water, first slowly, then rapidly.I stood still, my whole attention fixed upon the motions of her fingers.Suddenly I felt a misty consciousness as of something forgotten--a thrill of returning thought;and somehow the mystery of language was revealed to me.I knew then that “w-a-t-e-r” meant the wonderful cool something that was flowing over my hand.That living word awakened my soul, gave it light, hope, joy, set it free!There were barriers still, it is true, but barriers that could in time be swept away.我们沿着去水井房的道路散步,被一路的金银花香味吸引了。有人正在拉水,老师把我的手放在水龙头的下面。一股寒冷的激流涌过我的一只手掌,老师在我的另一只手掌上不停地拼写“水”,慢慢地,越来越快。我静静地站着,我全部的注意力都集中在她手指的动作。突然,我感到了一些被遗忘的朦胧意识--有一种思想回归的兴奋,语言之谜以某种方式从此对我展现。我知道了“水”就是从我的手上流过的美妙寒冷的东西。这生动的世界唤醒了我的灵魂,赋予它的光,希望,欢乐,使它自由!尽管事实上还有障碍,但障碍迟早会被一扫而空。

8.I left the well-house eager to learn.Everything had a name, and each name gave birth to a new thought.As we returned to the house every object which I touched seemed to quiver with life.That was because I saw everything with the strange, new sight that had come to me.On entering the door I remembered the doll I had broken.I felt my way to the hearth and picked up the pieces.I tried vainly to put them together.Then my eyes filled with tears;for I realized what I had done, and for the first time I felt repentance and sorrow.我满怀着学习的愿望离开了井台。每样东西都有名字,每个名字都引出一个新的概念。回到屋里以后,仿佛我所接触的每一样东西都活了,因为我是用我刚刚获得的这种新奇的“目光”来看待一切。一进门,我就想起了被我摔碎的玩具娃娃,我摸索着走到壁炉跟前,检起了玩具娃娃的碎片。我想把这些碎片拼在一起,可是拼不起来。我的眼里就充满了眼泪,因为我认识到自己做了什么,我第一次感到了后悔和难过。

9.I learned a great many new words that day.I do not remember what they all were;but I do know that mother, father, sister, teacher were among them--words that were to make the world blossom for me, “like Aaron's rod, with flowers.” It would have been difficult to find a happier child than I was as I lay in my crib at the close of that eventful day and lived over the joys it had brought me, and for the first time longed for a new day to come.那一天我学会了许多新词,现在我记不清都有哪些词了。但是其中肯定有mother(母亲)、father(父亲)、sister(姐姐)、teacher(老师)——就是这些词语将要把一个美好的世界展现在我的面前,就像《圣经》上说的“亚伦的手杖开花了”一样。那天晚上我躺在小床上回味着这特殊一天里的欢乐,恐怕世界上再也找不到比我更幸福的孩子。我生平第一次盼望新的一天快快到来。
