摘要:随着全球经济一体化进程的不断推进,国际商务活动不断日益频繁,经济贸易合作的领域不断扩大,商务函电作为信息的使者,感情的纽带和和友谊的桥梁,贯穿这各个环节从建立业务关系到达成交易,从执行合同及执行合同过程中的纠纷等,大都需要通过函电解决。特别是在产生贸易纠纷时,它又可能左右纠纷解决的后果。一封得体、规范的外贸函电,既能与外商建立和保持良好的业务关系,又避免了因纠纷而产生的不愉快。本文从文体、语言、翻译、词类转换、增减词等方面,对商务函电的特点和用词技巧作了初步探讨。

1.1文体特点
商务函电是一种在商务环境下,利用函电与具有不同文化背景的客户进行交流的跨文化行为。是一种公文性质的信函,其主要内容涉及公事,交流目的主要在于磋商公务,因此每一封商务公函都必须注重表达准确,规范,朴素,并且要求主题突出,中心明确。在文体上严谨规范,庄重典雅自成一路的风格特征;在用词方面,商务函电大多使用正式词汇,并力求用词简洁朴素,准确具体;在用语方面,强调句子严谨,完整,委婉礼貌,注重语气的恰当性,并充分考虑对方的感受。
1.2语言特点
商务函电其中的三个原则“准确、简洁、清楚”都是对语言方面的要求,“体贴、礼貌”则是针对态度和角度方面的要求。“完整”是对格式的要求,而“具体”则是对整封函电内容的整体要求,是要求避免大而无当的词句,内容不能偏离要表达的中心。商务函电不仅涉及独特的专业背景,而且涉及实际商务工作技能,其语言特点可以归纳为两条:商务函电涉及面涵盖了贸易、金融、外汇、海关、商检等诸多领域,显示出多种行业特色,因此,语言的选择性很强;商务人员的思维模式具体、审慎,讲究语言表达的分寸。具体体现在表达直截了当、简洁明快、淡于修饰。用词规范、语法结构严谨、句子排列一般固定有序、语篇连贯、逻辑性强。1.3翻译特点
商务函电翻译比较偏重于“实用效果”,其主要功能是准确传递经济信息,而不是为了取得美学效应和欣赏效果;因而,译者需要懂得、熟悉专业的行话、术语,翻译时意义忠实且术语精确.译文的语气要礼貌、诚恳、使用书面语言,做到简洁规范。使用地道的商业用语,体现商业风格避免使用产生歧义的语言,力求具体长句翻译要理清脉络,力求条理清晰,并且要达到“7C原则”即Clearness(清楚),Courtesy(礼貌), Conciseness(简洁), Correctness(正确), Concreteness(具体), Completeness(完整), Consideration(考虑周到)。

2.1.1词类转换
动词转换成名词
由于英汉表达方式不同,其中有部分动词,如aim at, target, impress….在英译汉时,虽然有相对应汉语动词直译,但如果转译显得更通顺。
例如:The company report targets early from selling at US$2000 by 2007.公司的报告中推出了一个目标,到2007可要达到2000美元。
名词转换成形容词
例如:We are prepared to make quantity order for this article.我们准备订购大量的这种货物。
名词转换成副词
例如:There is no doubt that we will still charge you old prices on all orders received here up to and in charge July 31.名词转换成动词
例如:Considering the small amount of goods shipped we agreed to make an exception by accepting the payment by D/P.鉴于货运量很少,我们同意破例接受付款交单。
介词转换成动词
例如:Your request for a further bargain of the price is really beyond my authority.无权决定

增补范畴词

增加解释性词
有时候词汇含义在原句中非常明确,但直译过来可能会产生误解或无法理解时,会增加解释性词语。

减译代词
其中的代词,特别是所有格代词,又是只在句中起语法作用,并非强调自身含义,不译。
例如:We assure you of our reciprocating your courtesy at any time.贵公司的好意,我方保证随时回报。
在英语中,第一人称主格代词,特别是We 在翻译是可酌情减译。
例如:We will advise you of the date, we are at your services at all times.我们谨遵你的时间,随时待命。
减译动词
有些谓语动词表意不少,或无表意作用的。
例如:The packing charges of this machine cost 5000 Yuan.这台机器大约5000块钱。
减译其他词
英语与汉语在表达相同概念时,采用方法有所不同,英语表达繁,汉语表达简。
例如:We expect that you will give us a definite reply at your earliest convenience.我们期待您尽早给我们一个确切的答复。
2.1.4词语的反译
例如:Our factory is now unprovided with the equipment necessary for the manufacturer of the product.(否定反译肯定)
我们工厂现在缺乏制造这些产品的必要设备。
2.1.5词语顺序的调整
词序的调整主要是状语和定语.在商务函电翻译中,主要是注意属性关系上的词序,即单词或短语作定语或状语的位置问题。
状语的位置
英语中,状语一般放在动词之后。形容词,副词短语做状语修饰动词时既可以位于动词之前也可以位于之后,但是,汉语中一般状语在前,动词在后。例如:If you have some documentary evidence, we would like you to send it urgently.如果贵方有证明文件的话,本公司希望贵方能立刻寄来。
英语中通常方式状语放在地点状语之前,地点状语放在时间状语之前或两个同时出现时,小单位在前,大单位在后,汉语则相反。
例如:The prices of all our products will be raised by 10% from April 1st.定语的位置
英语中定语与汉语明显不同,汉语中定语只能前置,而英语中既可以前置又可以后置,尤其是短语作定语是,一般被置于修饰词之后。
例如:[1] How much cash is tied up in accounts received how long.(Received后置)
本公司保留要求贵公司赔偿损失的权利。(不定式短语后置)
如被修饰词既有前置形容词又有后置形容词共同修饰,汉译时,后置形容词应移到被修饰词之前,而前置形容词汉译时译文中的那位置则根据汉语的顺序来译。
例如:In reply to your Email of may 16,we regret to inform you that we do not have in stock any items enquired for by you.贵方5月16的电子邮件收悉,但很抱歉,贵方所询的所有商品均告无货。2.2正式商务函电翻译用词
2.2.1专业词汇
外贸英语信函中对专业词汇的翻译务必精确、符合经贸专业要求。外贸英语中的价格术语意义固定:有的是单独的词,inquiry(询盘)和offer(报盘);有的是则是由几个词构成,例如:to draw on somebody(向某方开出汇票)。这些专业词汇的翻译稍微有差错就会造成负面的影响甚至巨大的损失,如曾有则报道说,某译者错将“不锈钢”译为“炭素钢”,这两字之差就给企业造成近20万元损失。值得注意的是,有些外贸英语专业词汇与其本意大相径庭。Document本意为“文件”,而在外贸英语中则为“单据”,如An L/C normally specifies the documents that are required by the buyer and the date by which the goods in question must be shipped。(信用证上,通常规定了买方所需的单据,以及有关货物的运货日期。)2.2.2.歧义词
英语中常常会出现一个词汇有多重意义,而这几个意义恰好又是对立的。因此在外贸英语信函的书写或翻译中,应避免使用歧义词。面对这类词汇应及时发现,并立刻和对方取得联系,以便及时纠正,以免使缔约双方发生分歧,为日后贸易带来后患。如in a week 可指在within a week(一周内),又可以指after a week(在一周后),这就必须要与对方商榷,及时换上表义明确的词。2.2.3.英美词汇差异
外贸英语信函的翻译还应注意英美词义的差异:在英式英语和美式英语中,同一个词可能有不同的含义。在这方面的典型例子即是单位的差异,如billion在美式英语中意思为“十亿”,而在英式英语中,则代表“万亿”。因此,在翻译中一定要注意英式英语和美式英语使用场合。
2.2.4.套用格式化语言或句型对应翻译法
以签署文件、合同等为目的的外贸英语信函,多套用已有格式。在翻译的时候,应用相应的中文格式,用程式化语言翻译即可。它的特点主要表现在一些套用、固定搭配及句式结构的应用中。译者可相应地采取“套用句型对应方法”来翻译。在此类商业信函中,对方一般也会采取正规书面语,风格繁冗。尤其是为了增加严肃、正式的意味,他们常常会选用带法律、语言保守倾向的古体词。常见的有以”here;there;where”为词根的词,如:herein;hereof;herewith;hereby;thereby;以词汇手段予以补偿,用相对比较古雅的词汇将原文的文体风格反映出来即可。2.2.5.整体格式差异
整体格式差异主要体现在英文与中文信函中。众所周知,英文日期常写于右上方,而中文日期常写于右下方。英文称呼使用复数Sirs/Gentlemen ,而在中文中,则体现为统称形式的整体单数。虽然,按照国际贸易惯例,外贸函电英译汉时,可保留英文外贸函电的格式,也可套用中文外贸函电的格式。但是,根据惯例,建议使用中文格式,以取得整体美感。
2.3用于达成友谊,交流感情的商务信函的翻译用词
除用于正式交易的外贸英语信函外,为达成贸易双方的友谊,商家会特别注意礼貌,因此会大量写作交流情感类信函。对这一类信函,译者翻译的时候,应注意选取适合的词,使用翻译具有“信、雅、达”的美感。并且提醒注意的一点是,商人毕竟是商人,他首先考虑的是商品、质量及相关问题与条件,而非客套语人称,英译汉时,应突出重点信息,精简繁枝冗叶,以达到强化重点的目的。针对外贸英语信函所带有的书面语体的语言结构特点,译者在翻译时,应该选择相应的书面语。在中文外贸信函中,使用的是介于文言文与口语之间的半文言文体与之相对应。例如:Sincerely yours汉译为“谨上”即可。而针对港台地区
保留大量古语的特点,译者在翻译时,还应该把开头的“先生”之类词婉译为“敬启者”。在传统英语贸易辞令中,大量套语,更应该恰当增减。例如:We are pleased 如We are looking forward with interest to your reply.等句式,这里若直译为“我们带着极大的兴趣盼望您的答复。”显然,这种翻译拖沓而且生硬,只要稍微套用一下格式,采取婉译方式,译为“盼复”,则简洁明了。类似的情况还有:Your prompt 婉译为“即复为谢”)
商务函电的重要性在我国的外贸活动中显得越来越重要。好的商务英语函电翻译可以促进我国的外贸。翻译工作者应该在翻译和学习的过程中不断积累各种专业词汇和缩略语,掌握各种翻译技巧,针对各种具体情况采用不同的翻译方法,力求准确,且符合贸易双方的语言习惯,社会文化习俗。

综上所述,外贸英语的这些特点要求是由外贸英语的语境和交际功能所决定的。这些特点的客观性要求人们在使用外贸英语时必须遵循其语言表达,重视外贸语言的表达作用。在书写英文函电或进行英汉翻译时,要注意体现这些规律,特点,注意中英文翻译表达的差异,力求做到遣词运字得体,语气句调相仿,正确传达信息,为商务活动架好语言桥梁。
