【102】The One With The Sonogram At The End
antique’s
No.2 The One With the Sonogram at the End
1.Rachel: Everything you need to know is in that first kiss.
2.Chandler: Yeah, I think for us, kissing is pretty much like an opening act, y'know? I mean it's like the stand-up comedian you have to sit through before Pink Floyd comes out.
3.Marsha: Well, she has issues. Do you have any issues?
4.Carol: Marty's still totally paranoid.
5.Rachel: Oh, like I wasn't dreading tomorrow enough, having to give it back to him...'Hi Barry!Remember me? I'm the girl in the veil who stomped on your heart in front of your entire family!' Oh God and now I'm gonna have to return the ring, without the ring, which makes it so much harder...
6.Chandler: Kinda puts that whole pillow thing in perspective, huh, Mon?“kinda”在片中出现的次数非常频繁,也是口语中非常实用的词语,意思是有一点儿,相当于kind of.
7.Monica: I know this is going to sound unbelievably selfish, but, were you planning on bringing up the whole baby/lesbian thing? Because I think it might take some of the heat off me.Ross和Monica的父母来看望他们,由于从小父母就喜欢Ross(因为Ross成绩优异,为人老实,而Monica性格独立,而且那时候还很胖chubby),所以在吃饭的时候老是无意识的讽刺Monica,于是Monica想让Ross提提自己老婆是Lesbian而且有了孩子的事儿转移注意力。Take some of the heat off sb,这里是帮Monica减轻压力的意思。
8.Mrs.Geller: Well, at least she had the chance to leave a man at the altar...“at the altar”应该理解为“在婚礼上,在举行婚礼时”,altar这里就可以理解为”教堂“,所以这句话的意思,我认为应该是:(虽然Rachel的父母为筹备婚礼花了不少钱,而Rachel又逃婚),但是至少Rachel还有机会在举行婚礼之际离开那个男人,(言下之意,Monica到现在连个结婚还都没有)。
9.Mr.Geller: Look, there are people like Ross who need to shoot for the stars, with his museum, and his papers getting published.Other people are satisfied with staying where they are-I'm telling you , these are the people who never get cancer.“shoot for”是争取、得到或完成的意思。
10.Ross: Well, you may wanna steer clear of the word 'dumped'.Chances are he's gonna be this, this broken shell of a man, y'know, so you should try not to look too terrific, I know it'll be hard.Or, y'know, uh, hey!, I'll go down there, and I'll give Barry back his ring, and you can go with Carol and Susan to the OB/GYN...“wanna”=want to,口语中常这样子简化,类似得还有”gonna”,就是going to得意思。
11.Ross: How could I forget?
12.Ross: 'S'funny, um, uh, we agreed we'd spend the rest of our lives together.Things change, roll with the punches.I believe Julia's on the table..?“roll with the punches”punch除了打孔机的意思之外,还有打击的意思,这里应该是说,让这些打击减轻一些吧(Roll就是滚的意思,那当然是减轻了)。
13.Chandler: I dunno, but..I think it's about to attack the Enterprise.“dunno”是don’t know的缩写,Chandler和Joey被逼着看sonogram的录像带,可是看得一头雾水,Chandler居然说似乎是胎儿要进攻了。
CVN65 the Enterprise us navy aircraft carrier
NCC-1701A(TOS movie,The Search for Spock(III)里,Kirk为了杀死Klingon人把1701炸了,Voyage Home(IV)最后StarFleet把另一艘船改名为The Enterprise,编号NCC-1701A,The Final Frontier(V),The Undiscovered Country(VI)里也是这艘船)
Enterprise)
NCC-1701D(TNG 电视剧,Picard那代的船,在电影Generation(VII)最后坠毁)NCC-1701E(TNG电影,First Contact(VIII),Insurrection(IX),Nemesis(X)中的船,在Nemesis(X)遭到严重毁坏但已被修复,没有下文)
至于Friends中提到的,我记得原话是“I think it's about to attack the Enterprise”,肯定是指Star Trek,Chan觉得那个超声波图看起来像是Alien Vessel。

1.Ross: Does she.Marsha: He's out banging other women over the head with a club, while she sits at home trying to get the mastodon smell out of the carpet!
2.Phoebe: She's already fluffed that pillow...Monica, you know, you've already fluffed that-(Monica glares at her.)-but, it's fine!
Monica: Look , I'm sorry, guys, I just don't wanna give them any more ammunition than they already have.Q: ammunition
3.Phoebe: Monica-Hi!Um, Monica, you're scaring me.I mean, you're like, you're like all chaotic and twirly.And not-not in a good way.Q: chaotic and twirly
4.Chandler: Ugly Naked Guy got a Thighmaster!Q:Thighmaster
Thigh Master
5.ob/gyn的正确意思 Main Entry: OB-GYN
Function: abbreviation:obstetrician gynecologist, obstetrics gynecology
6.chandler说Monica :You don't get a lot of 'doy' these days 这是什么意思啊?'doy指什么?
first people used to say “duh” which is a sound that indicated stupidity, but for a little while, it turned into “doy” which has the same meaning.it just SOUNDS stupid.7.the “comedian” argument
Chandler: The problem is, though, after the concert's over, no matter how great the show was, you girls are always looking for the comedian again, y'know? I mean, we're in the car, we're fighting traffic...basically just trying to stay awake.Rachel: Yeah, well, word of advice: Bring back the comedian.Otherwise next time you're gonna find yourself sitting at home, listening to that album alone.
1.chan用类比,show对应sex,comedian对应first kiss, fighting traffic 我想是指男人面对女人总要找 more feelings of first kiss than sex, basically just trying to stay awake 我想是指男人通常就会搞得很没心情
Rachel用comedian对应first kiss, listening to that album对应sex 2. Just imagine this:
When the show is over, the man drives his girlfriend home.On the way home, while the man is fighting with the heavy traffic, the woman is nagging crazily about the whole comedian thing like forever. The man doesn't see why his girl is so attacted to the geek comedian, and he is totally freaked out and feels like being tortured by her girlfriend.Like Chandler stated later in 50*, he can't screw up their relationship by telling the truth, like yelling at his girl “Would you just stop nagging, Mom(Mon), Gees.” He can do nothing but try to stay awake or learn how to sleep with his eyes open, otherwise he's gonna be in a very dangerous situation with his girl. The same thing could probably happen after the 2 lovers made out.It seems like a rule for guys in Friends to discuss all the stuff related to “it” after making love , which is especially obvious in 301TOW the Leia.In that eppy, Rachel sold Ross out by revealing his little sexual fantacy to Phoebe. So, I guess the by saying “in a car or fighting traffic” things, chandler indicates 2 lovers chat or “discuss” about sex, just like people like to talk about a show right after it is over.Unfortunately lovers have pretty good chances to be at odds with each other on this kind of occasion.3.here, “comedian” means “kiss”(not “first kiss”, Rachel says “everything you need to know is in the first kiss”, just because she think that “from the first kiss you can read his/her real feeling about you, so first kiss is important”), “concert” means “sex”.When having sex, girls like something gentle and romantic like kiss, like move fingers on lovers' body(the stand-up comedian), while what boys really want is(mostly)just in-and-out, the physical excitement and the climax(that's Pink Floyd's live show, that's why we bought the ticket, hahahaha....).And after the sex, girls tends to hug and kiss and keep on enjoying the romance(looking for the comedian again), but boys.....u know, satisfied and exhausted(we r in the car, we r fighting traffic), we always prefer falling in sleep. But not to piss off our sweetheart, boys have to hug back and kiss back and tell her 'I love you'......basically just trying to stay awake.Well, Rachel's answer is really funny, each time i just can't help laughing, hahahaha.....She says “word of advice: Bring back the comedian.Otherwise next time you're gonna find yourself sitting at home, listening to that album alone”, that is, “You better kiss her after the sex, Otherwise next time nobody wants to have sex with you except yourself(you can only satisfy yourself by wank)” 确实是很Blue,不过我觉得Friends最吸引人的地方之一就是以一种很随意戏谑的态度讨论性的问题,很轻松很愉快(而且我觉得还算比较健康了)。

2、“He's out ”在这里表状态,表示“他在外面……”,后面“banging other women over the head with a club”是他在外面所干的事。

3、speaking of issues
4、I gave you one job“我只给了你一件事干!”

28.I was just wondering about the mother-to-be, but..thanks for sharing.

[102]The One With The Sonogram At The End antique’s No.2 The One With the Sonogram at the End 1.Rachel: Everything you need to know is in that first kiss.
9.Mr.Geller: Look, there are people like Ross who need to shoot for the stars, with his museum, and his papers getting published.Other people are satisfied with staying where they are-I'm telling you, these are the people who never get cancer.“shoot for”是争取、得到或完成的意思。

“We should do this again”,表面上好像是以后我们还应该再继续约会,其实这是dating language,往往都是反着说的,近年来网路上有很多类似的帖子,大家可以找来看看,很搞笑的。 比如“It's not you'”就是“It is you”,“You're such a nice guy”意思是 “I'm gonna be dating leather-wearing alcoholics and complaining about them to you”等等。
2.Joey: Yeah.Cushions the blow.
3.Monica: I mean, why should I let them meet him? I mean, I bring a guy home, and within five minutes they're all over him.I mean, they're like-coyotes, picking off the weak members of the herd.Paula: Listen. As someone who's seen more than her fair share of bad beef, I'll tell you: that is not such a terrible thing.I mean, they're your friends, they're just looking out after you. Pick off the weak members of the herd,摘取、挑选弱处下手的意思。
4.Paula: Well, you do realise the odds of that happening are a little slimmer if they never get to meet the guy..odds这里的意思是可能的机会、几率,相当于Chance。 5.Monica:(to Alan)Thanks.I'll call you tomorrow.(Alan exits, to all)Okay.Okay, let's let the Alan-bashing begin.Who's gonna take the first shot, hmm? “take the first shot”也值得记下,各种场合都可以用,“谁先来?”,呵呵,Antique的笔记那么臭,开批判会啦,who’s gonna take the first shot? 6.Ross:...So I think Alan will become the yardstick against which all future boyfriends will be measured.“yardstick” 本身是一种丈量工具,即 “码尺、准绳”,其引申之意也就是 “衡量„的标准或尺度”,后面跟介词of或against, 比如:Is diploma the only yardstick of knowledge?
7.Chandler: So I have a flaw!Big deal!Like Joey's constant knuckle-cracking isn't annoying? And Ross, with his over-pronouncing every single word? And Monica, with that snort when she laughs? I mean, what the hell is that thing?...I accept all those flaws, why can't you accept me for this? Antique is so perfect,he has no flaw„.,big deal单独用在某句话中多半表示反语或者反问,用的更常见的是no big deal.
8.Monica: Can you believe it?...Y'know what? I just don't feel the thing.I mean, they feel the thing, I don't feel the thing.Paula: Honey..you should always feel the thing.Listen, if that's how you feel about the guy, Monica, dump him!
9.Chandler: Hey, y'know, I have had it with you guys and your cancer and your emphysema and your heart disease. The bottom line is, smoking is cool, and you know it.“I have had it”是个常用句式,意思是我已经受够了。 Bottom line是底线的意思,如果某人惹恼了你,你可以来一句,you have reach my bottom line.10.Alan: Yeah, I'm sorry too. But, I gotta tell you, I am a little relieved. -----------
1.Paula:As someone who's seen more than her fair share of bad beef
2.Monica:Okay, let's let the Alan-bashing begin.Who's gonna take the first shot, hmm?
3.Ross:The way he makes me feel about myself.
4.Phoebe I know, I opened it up and there it was, just floating in there, like this tiny little hitch-hiker!hitch-hiker是搭顺风车的人。
5.degenerate into bickering
6.I just don't feel the thing I just don't feel the thing 时,the thing是指她对Alan没有什么特殊的感觉,也就是说不来电,而当厨师Paula回答Monica说You should always ”feel“ ”the thing“时,”the thing“ 指的是男人“那话儿”,她是在说女生决定爱不爱一个男生之前一定先得“验验货”。
7.Pop-Tart
8.giant karmic debt
9.all over him 这里all over him的意思是,不喜欢,全身挑毛病
这种词一定要看上下文,在they all find out 那集,chan对mon说 pheo is all over him ,这里就有引诱,往身上贴的意思,委婉的说是喜欢,:)
all over sb.
I'm all over you. I have a crush on you. Hey, look, the guy is dancing all over the girl.I'm over you. I'm all over you 是完全不一樣的.
13.The hair comes out, and the gloves come on gloves(come on)是从一句俗语来的,其实就相当于hurt somebody。
本来rachel是站在phoebe一条战线上的(she thinks phoebe's chewing hair is endearing),没想到pheobe“恩将仇报”的讽刺了她一回,Rachel觉得被出卖了,所以说phoebe has the gloves on.说有时候你还会听到类似的说法:“not lay a glove(fingure or hand)on”,which means leave unhurt.14.Or, or, y'know, um, 'I think we should see other people' means 'Ha, ha, I already am'.“我想我们该约会其他人”“哈哈,我已经在约会别人啦”
15.Cushions the blow cushion
16.loosely translated
17.Hassidic jewellers。Hassidic adj.members of a strict Jewish sect 18.deja vu n.
(French expression adopted in English)a feeling that you are seeing something you have 'already seen' before...in a past life, dream, etc...19.But you'll have to live with the knowledge that you sent an honest man to die live with可理解为承受,knowledge就是指 you sent an honest man to die这个事实
20.Phoebe:Yeah-no-I'm jut-it's,I haven't worked-It's my bank.I haven't worked 的后半句应该是 it out,她心情很乱,不知道怎么说才好,才语无伦次
21.I've heard schho much about all you guyschh!monica之前在perk里谈到她前一个男友总被他们嘲笑,原因就是那个男的说话舌头不直,chan还学他说:“We love Schhteve!Schhteve was schhexy!”
22.Hassidie jewellers(犹太珠宝商)是他们比赛的对手,showed a thing or two about softball,给他们露了一两招
23.I stepped in gum....What is up with the universe?
What is up with...
24.the way they were“原来的样子”
25.Yeah.He could row like a viking就是划起船来像个海盗,意思是他很有型 26.I don't care“我不在乎”
【104】The One With George Stephanopoulos antique’s NO.4 The One With George Stephanopoulos
1.Phoebe: Okay, okay.If I were omnipotent for a day, I would want, um, world peace, no more hunger, good things for the rain-forest...And bigger boobs!
2.Ross: Today's the day Carol and I first..consummated our physical relationship.(Joey is puzzled.)Sex...You know what, I-I'd better pass on the game.I think I'm just gonna go home and think about my ex-wife and her lesbian lover. 另外一个词组是pass on sth,相当于let sth pass,它还有去世(相当于pass away)和传递的意思,有时候我们也可以说pass on my best wish to sb,请代为转达我最美好的祝愿。
3.Ross: Alright, alright, maybe it'll take my mind off it.Do you promise to buy me a big thumb finger?
4.Rachel: God, isn't this exciting? I earned this.I wiped tables for it, I steamed milk for it, and it was totally—(opens envelope)—not worth it.Who's FICA? Why's he getting all my money? I mean, what-Chandler, look at that.
5.Chandler: Excuse me, look, we've been here for over an hour, and a lot of people less sick than my friend have gone in.I mean, that guy with the toe thing? Who's he sleeping with?(She slides the gladd panel over and Chandler talks through it in a loud voice.)Oh, c'mon Dora, don't be mad...I know we both said some things we didn't mean, but that doesn't mean we still don't love each other.(To the waiting room.)Y'know, I feel like I've lost her..(She slides the panel back, he turns, and it takes him by surprise.)Ba-!三个好友一起去看冰球赛,结果Ross光荣负伤,于是紧急送到医院,不料那个值班员正在煲电话粥,态度不好,Chandler好言好语却毫无效果,于是发了点小脾气,没料到吃了闭门羹,所以他阴阳怪气的来了一段台词„.6.Ross: I remember the moonlight coming through the window-and her face had the most incredible glow.
7.Kid: I found it.Finders keepers, losers weepers.(Ross looks at Chandler for help.)
8.Ross:(to the kid)Oh yeah? Well, I'm rubber, you're glue, whatever—(to Chandler)—can't do it.(to the kid)Listen, uh-gimme back my puck. “I’m rubber,you’re glue,whatever(you say bounces off me and stick to you)”在Friends中出现了好几次,这里显然也是小孩子们拌嘴皮子时候用的。
-------
1.”The glass is half empty.“ 有这样的一种比喻“如果有一个只装了一半水的水杯,乐观者认为‘水杯有一半是满得’悲观者则认为‘有一半是空的’”,这就是“pessimist”和“The glass is half empty.”
3.You have no idea how loud they are!
prep the guy。
5.Floopy: It doesnt mean anything. Its just a word *they* chose to describe that messed up feeling where nothing is solid and nothing is sure(instead it's changeable)floopy makes people think of rubber or a wet fish flopping around.
it's all gonna come together。
9.that gug with the toe thing脚趾受伤的人;chandler的这个笑话,如果放在中国就是”他是不是开了后门“,只是他指的这个后门不是通关系或者送钱,而是直接贡献身体.
14.What is FICA? FICA=Federal Insurance Contributions Act The FICA tax, also known as the Social Security tax, is paid equally by the employer and employee. This tax is composed of two elements: 1.OASDI--The old age, survivor and disability portion of the tax is paid on wages up to the maximum covered wage base for the year.2.HI--The hospital insurance or Medicare portion of the tax is paid on all wages, without limit.15.George Stephanopoulos是克林顿的竞选顾问,而George Snuffalopagus是芝麻街当红主角Big Bird自己脑子里构造出来的朋友。
16.You got way too much free time.way too就是太怎么怎么样。 u r way too young to see that 17.I don't even have a 'pl'.
18.duplex
19.Leetch spots Messier in the crease-there's the pass! Brian Leetch, Mark Messier是美国国家冰球联盟(National Hockey League)New York Ranger的明星球员。
【105】The One With the East German Laundry Detergent antique’s NO.5 The One With the East German Laundry Detergent
1.Ross: Not that big a deal? It's amazing.Ok, you just reach in there, there's one little maneuver, and bam, a bra right out the sleeve. All right, as far as I'm concerned, there is nothing a guy can do that even comes close.Am I right? Rachel: Come on!You guys can pee standing up.Chandler: We can? All right, I'm tryin' that.Joey: Ok, you know what blows my mind? Women can see breasts any time they want. You just look down and there they are.How you get any work done is beyond me.Phoebe: Oh, ok, you know what I don't get? The way guys can do so many mean things, and then not even care.
(Come on!You guys can pee standing up.)” pee是个非常口语化的词,用医学术语来表示的话就是urinate;通常我们只在熟人之间才会用pee这个词,而在一般情况下如果你内急了的话可以说 I need / have to go to the bathroom.Joey 也发表意见说: “Ok, you know what blows my mind? Women can see breasts any time they want. You just look down and there they are.How you get any work done is beyond me.(你们知道什么让我觉得惊奇吗? You’d better cherish the opportunity and don’t blow it. The professor’s lecture is beyond my mind。
最后Phoebe 说: “Oh, ok, you know what I don't get? The way guys can do so many mean things, and then not even care.”
2.Chandler: No, I know, but it's just so hard, you know? I mean, you're sitting there with her, she has no idea what's happening, and then you finally get up the courage to do it, and there's the horrible awkward moment when you've handed her the note.“get up the courage to do sth”,鼓足勇气做某事,类似的词组还有nerve oneself to do sth,be on one’s mettle to do sth, take heart of grace to do sth„生活中常需要鼓起勇气作些事情,Chandler这里就不得不鼓足勇气去分手:)
3.Joey: No, yeah, no, ok, but not yet.I don't wanna seem too eager. One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi. That seems pretty cool.(he walks over to her)Hey, Angela. 这里“One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi”中的Mississippi没有特殊含义,主要起到延时作用。
4.Ross: Ok, ok, now what is wrong with my Snuggles? What, it says I'm a sensitive, warm kinda guy, you know, like a little, fuzzy bear.Ok, I can pick something else up on the way.Chandler: There you go.Sensitive是敏感的、灵敏的意思,注意一下其他同根词,sensible是明智的、有判断力的意思,sensational是轰动的、耸人听闻的意思;这里Ross听到Chandler说他的柔顺剂不好时候,进行了反驳,他说“我现在用的柔顺剂又怎么不好了?
There you go口语中也很常见,可用Here/There sb go的句式概括,一般就是表示赞同、赞赏的意思或者相当于here/there you are。
5.Monica: It is so great to meet a guy who is smart and funny, and has an emotional age beyond, like eight.
6.Phoebe: Ok, you can do this. It's just like pulling off a Band-aid.Just do it really fast, and then the wound is exposed.pull off是努力实现、赢得的意思,这里则是用了本意把绷带纱布拉掉的意思。
7.Rachel: Except it didn't.It happened to me.Oh, god, I'm gonna look like a big marshmallow peep. What am I doing? What am I doing? My father's right.I can't live on my own!I can't even do laundry!“except it didn’t”可以当作固定用法记下,意思是“才不是呢”,或者学学港台普通话翻译成“哪有?”,似乎有点撒娇的意思在里面了。 8.Ross: You were incredible!Brand new woman, ladies and gentlemen.Rachel: I could not have done this without you. (I could not have done this without you),不仅如此,她还kiss了一下Ross哦,浪漫温馨的不得了!
---------
1.Ross: Multiple orgasms
2.there's the horrible awkward moment when you've handed her the note.
3.belch the alphabet.“belch the alphabet”belch本意是打嗝、喷射,这里表示“吐出”,所谓打嗝会嗝出字母,就是指有些无聊的人,会故意打一个长长的嗝,然后会利用打嗝发出字母的音,有一些很厉害又没事的无聊人,真的有办法用打嗝从A念到Z。
4.hold on camper。
6.I can't even send back soup rachel连在餐厅里多点的汤都不敢退,说明rachel在和人打交道上真是很差.
10.Monica: It is so great to meet a guy who is smart and funny, and has an emotional age beyond, like eight.
2.I got the extended disco version, with three choruse of”You'll never make it on your own.“ 这个直译就是带三段合唱的舞曲版,别人只是借歌来鼓励她,她却直接说道歌本身上去了.3.One Mississippi, tow Mississippi这是用来数时间的方式,读一次Mississippi的时间大约就是一秒,其实这和我们用”滴嗒“来数秒的方式异曲同工.4.favor=帮助
5.Wow, being dumped by you obviously agrees with her 是MON讥笑JOEY的话,字面是WOW!
6.”you don't say“ actually means Really? Is that really true? 7.proofs
8.that hug looked pretty brutal。 11.marshmallow peep Originally,Marshmallow Peep is a kinda marshmallow figured as a little chicken, but now it comes in all kinds of colors, sizes and shapes.Believe it or not, Marshmallow Peeps is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2003.marshmallow就是棉花糖啊,流氓兔子的那个音就是这个
14.there is nothing a guy can do that even comes close come close,
16.It's like cocktails in Appalachia.
17.I had a 24-inch waist,
18.How you get any work done is beyond me。beyond sb.
19.Bullwinkel and Bullwinkle是个卡通片,里面的人物就是moose and squirrel.
【106】The One With the Butt antique’s NO.6 The One With the Butt
1.Chandler: You can always spot someone who's never seen one of his plays before.Notice, no fear, no sense of impending doom... Freud!(The exclamation point in the title scares me.(Gesturing)Y'know, it's not just Freud, it's Freud!),大概是觉得弗洛伊德这个角色太难演绎了吧,说白了还是担心Joey的水准。
2.Monica: Did anybody else feel they just wanted to peel the skin off their body, to have something else to do?
3.Chandler: So explain something to me here, uh, what kind of a relationship do you imagine us having if you already have a husband and a boyfriend?
4.Rachel: Look!I cleaned!I did the windows, I did the floors...I even used all the attachments on the vacuum, except that little round one with the bristles, I don't know what that's for. Attachment means “A supplementary part;an accessory”,附属物、附件、附属装置。
5.Chandler: Thank God you didn't try to fan out the magazines.I mean, she'll scratch your eyes right out.。 Chandler不失时机的又火上浇油,说还好Rach没把杂志也给弄乱了,否则眼珠子都会被Monica挖出来(scratch your eyes right out)。
6.Chandler: Someone's left a glass on the coffee table. There's no coaster. It's a cold drink, it's a hot day.Little beads of condensation are inching their way closer and closer to the surface of the wood... (A disk, plate, or small mat placed under a bottle, pitcher, or drinking glass to protect a table top or other surface beneath)。
7.Rachel: Ooh, do I sense a little bit of resentment?Chandler: No, no resentment, believe me, it's worth it.'Kay? Y'know in a relationship you have these key moments that you know you'll remember for the rest of your life? Well, every-single-second is like that with Aurora..and I've just wasted about thirty-five of them talking to you people, so, uh..Monica, can you help me with the door?(He has armloads of stuff.)“sense a little bit of resentment”这个用法比较地道,“我怎么感觉到了一点儿怨恨的味道?”,Chandler马上反驳说没有,他接下来的一段话可以转换形式记下来,“In a relationship,we have some key moments that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.”
8.Director: I think his butt would like to get this shot before lunch.Once again, rolling...water working...and action....and cut. What was that? shot子弹、炮弹、开枪、射击,这里则是机会的意思。可怜的Joey,虽然只是出演butt,对于他来说居然也是个shot,希望他别blow it.9.Chandler: I know there'll be many moments in the years to come when I'll regret asking the following question, but-And Andrew is? 10.Chandler:...Well, y'know, part of me wants that, but it's like I'm two guys, y'know? I mean, one guy's going 'Shut up!This is great!' But there's this other guy.Actually it's the same guy that wells up every time that Grinch's heart grows three sizes and breaks that measuring device...And he's saying, y'know, 'This is too hard!Get out!Get out!' Well up涌出、涌现、涌起。 11.Rachel: Really? Just casually strewn about in that reckless haphazard manner? Strewn about中,strewn是strew的过去式,about相当于around。
-------
1.that would work The word ”work“ acts as an intransitive verb here, usually used in the oral language with the similar meaning to ”effect, take effect“.
3.back me up here=support me。 【107】The One With the Blackout antique’s NO.7 The One With the Blackout
1.Rachel: Wow, this is so cool, you guys.The entire city is blacked out!“black out”停电、熄灯、停止和中断的意思,这一集一开始,整个纽约市都断电了,还真是酷耶。关于black还有一些词组需要掌握,black and white:白纸黑字,类似的还有混淆是非(call/make black white);bule and white青一块紫一块;black book/list 黑名单等等。
2.Monica:(into phone)Pants and a sweater? Why, mom? Who am I gonna meet in a blackout? Power company guys? Eligible looters? Could we talk about this later? Are you eligible to wirte the book about Friends?
3.Monica: OK, I'll go.OK, senior year of college...on a pool table.常常在英语角碰到人介绍自己时候说是Grade one or two之类的,其实大学几年级有更地道的说法,freshman->一年级,sophomore->二年级,junior->三年级,senior->大四,研究生是postgraduate,博士生是phd,还有人往往介绍自己直博了,个人认为如下说法比较合适:be nominated to be a phd candidate directly,在有些学校介绍硕博连读的网页上,还有如下表述direct-promotion program for PHD diploma.. .4.Ross: Probably. But you know, I'll tell you something.Passion is way overrated. He's been known to fly into a passion without warning.
5.Ross: I'm taking my time, alright? I'm laying the groundwork.Yeah.I mean, every day I get just a little bit closer to...Joey: Priesthood!Look Ross, I'm telling you, she has no idea what you're thinking. If you don't ask her out soon you're going to end up stuck in the zone forever.take time 意思是从容进行,当Joey好心好意劝他抓紧时间行动时候,他一开始是否认,接着就给自己借口说自己是在打基础(lay the groundwork),说自己是每天都在越来越接近Rachel, Joey看得如此明白,不等他话说完,就说他不是变得越来越接近Rachel,而是越来越像个神父(Priesthood),stuck是stick的过去式,同主题曲中的stuck in the second gear意思相同,停留在、卡在的意思,Joey说如果你不赶快行动,你们就将永远停留在朋友的区间了。
6.Phoebe:(smiling)You betcha!Betcha=bet you=you bet,
7.Jill: My God, you're choking!(she runs over and gives him the Heimlich, the gum flies from his mouth)That better?
8.Rachel: God, the first time he smiled at me...those three seconds were more exciting than three weeks in Bermuda with Barry.
9.Ross: That's funny, because you know, you are a huge crapweasel!
10.Ross: OK, guys, guys? I have the definitive one.M
New Years Day:新年,元旦,1月1日;St.Valentine's Day:圣瓦伦丁节(情人节)2月14日;All Fools's Day or April Fools's Day:愚人节4月1日;Good Friday:耶稣受难日(复活节前的星期五);Easter:复活节(春分月圆后第一个星期日,4月);Easter Monday复活节后的星期一;Holy Thursday:耶稣升天节(复活节后的40天的星期四);May Day or Labour Day:五一劳动节;the Spring Bank Holiday:春假(英国5月最后一个星期一);Mother's Day:母亲节(5月第二个星期日);Memorial Day:阵亡将士纪念日(美国,5月26日);Independence Day:美国独立纪念日(7月4日);the Summer Bank Holiday:夏季公假(英国,8月最后一个星期一);Columbus Day:哥伦布日(10月12日);Halloween:万圣节前夕(10月31日);Hallowmas:万圣节(11月1日);Armistice day or Veterans Day:第一,二次世界大战的停战纪念日(11月11日);Thanksgiving Day:感恩节(在美国是11月的第二个星期一);Christmas Eve:圣诞节前夜(12月24日);Christmas Day:圣诞节(12月25日);Boxing Day:节礼日(圣诞节次日,如遇星期日,推迟一天)。
2.Ross: Will you make the mashed potatoes with the lumps?
3.Monica: And I assume, Chandler, you are still boycotting all the pilgrim holidays.
4.Ross: Look, if she's talking to it, I just think that I should get some belly time too.Not that I believe any of this.“belly time”,翻译成腹部时间么? “Not that I believe any of this”,这是一个强调句型,相当于I don’t belive any of this,Ross一方面不想让Susan一个人独享同胎儿亲近的机会,另一方面又非着重强调他是个PHD的身份,不相信这一套。 M:I hear the hocky game was packed.W:Not an empty seat in the house!Just standing room only.
5.Chandler: I'd just like to say that I'm totally behind this experiment. In fact, I'd very much like to butter your head.这里总结一下,表示支持、赞同有哪些表达方法,Chandler用了一个be behind sb/sth,其他的还有:agree with, go along with, back up,on the side of,support等等,当然了还有一个最简单地表达法:be with sb,以及Friedns主题曲中的I’ll be there for you.“'d very much like to butter your head”中,very much又提前了,不同于我们常说的Thank you very much,这里还是表示强调。
6.Monica: We all chipped in.chip in除了插嘴的意思之外,还有凑钱、捐款、赞助的意思。比如:I'm very sorry that I can only afford to chip in a few dollars this time. The businessman donated a lot of money to the hospital.
7.Monica:(hands Chandler a bag)Chandler, here you go, got your traditional Thanksgiving feast, you got your tomato soup, your grilled cheese fixin's, and your family size bag of Funyuns.Rachel: Wait, wait, Chandler, this is what you're havin' for Thanksgiving dinner? What, what, what is it with you and this holiday? 这其中故事大家都很熟悉了,只有Rachel不清楚,所以她不解地问:你和这节日怎么回事呀?(what is it with you and this holiday),这句话应该熟记,以后有什么觉得好奇的时候,就不用生硬的去问what’s wrong 或者what’s the matter了。
8.Chandler: Yes.It's very difficult to appreciate a Thanksgiving dinner once you've seen it in reverse.
9.Monica: Ok, three kinds of potatoes coming up.
10.Monica: Ok, right about now the turkey should be crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Why are we standing here? 11.Joey: Hey, I got one keyhole and about a zillion keys. You do the math.
12.Chandler: I'd like to propose a toast.Little toast here, ding ding.I know this isn't the kind of Thanksgiving that all of you all planned, but for me, this has been really great, you know, I think because it didn't involve divorce or projectile vomiting.Anyway, I was just thinking, I mean, if you'd gone to Vail, and if you guys'd been with your family, if you didn't have syphilis and stuff, we wouldn't be all together, you know? So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm very thankful that all of your Thanksgivings sucked. Propose a toase,祝酒。
13.[Scene: The Subway, Joey sees his poster and he peels off the caption on his poster, revealing more posters underneath. The captions read, as follows: Bladder Control Problem Stop Wife Beating Hemorrhoids? Winner of 3 Tony Awards...
1.Phoebe: Yes, and her boyfriend. But we're celebrating Thanksgiving in December 'cause he is lunar.lunar Thanksgiving.2.Ross:(picking up a book)Hey, hey, Yertle the Turtle.
3.Joey: Ooh, you smell great tonight. What're you wearing? Girl:(provocatively)Nothing.
4.Joey: Set another place for Thanksgiving. My entire family thinks I have VD.Chandler: Tonight, on a very special Blossom.VD是花柳病,所以Chan说今晚鲜花怒放!
5.Ross: Ok, ok, here we go.(he crouches down near her stomach)Ok, where am I talking to, here? I mean, uh, well, there is one way that seems to offer a certain acoustical advantage, but...Ross不知道向哪里开口,居然想到生孩子的地方去了,不过也只有他才能用这么委婉的方式说出来。
6.Joey: Hey, I got one keyhole and about a zillion keys. You do the math. You do the math
7.Rachel: By all means.
Chandler: Tonight, on a very special Blossom.
9.the bigger half(of the bread)心里许个愿,然后如果得到了大半的,愿望就能实现。
10.Bobo the Sperm Guy:man who is used for sexual purposes only.(can also be used to identify an anonymous sperm donor)Bobo the Sperm Guy流传成为sperm donor的代名词,应该是有些典故的很可能这个短语就原创于friends,因为bobo 用得经典,所以后来人们就这么戏称了,不知道这个猜测对不对,呵呵。儿语bobo=sleep bobo的意思有: To give a blowjob to someone;Caveman for ”friend“;
really silly person;fearless african warrior;sexual animal 【110】The One With The Monkey

5.One of these times is just gonna be your last chance with me.“这将可能是你最后一次有机会见我了” 或者是 “你和我见面的机会也就这几次了”
6.That guy's going home with a note!chandler把Phoebe上面教训david的话,说成是一个便条(note)。
【111】The One With Mrs.Bing 1.Bona sera = Good evening 2.Chandler: Y'know, of all my friends, no-one knows the crap I go through with my mom more than you.chan说:“我所有的朋友里,你知道我和我妈之间那些烂事最多。”go through,经历,crap=sh*t 3.trick question, phoe找借口说可能刚才那个问题有歧异,所以才问第二遍
4.see you around

tom: can you ask you a question, peter? peter: shoot.7.a dive的意思是 A run down, cheap, unclean restaurant or hotel

6.Chandler: No.You decided to go into the out-of-work actor business. Now that wasn't easy, but you did it!And I'd like to believe that when the right woman comes along, you will have the courage and the guts to say ”No thanks, I'm married.“ Out-of-work : jobless, idle 7.Mrs.Tribbiani: Of course I knew! What did you think? Clear the tracks for the boobie payback express.
11.And I always figured, when the right one comes along, I'd be able to be a stand-up guy and go the distance...be the stand-up guy
go the distance 类似于go out of one's way to do sth 不辞辛劳地做什么事 Joey虽然表面上看起来很花心,但他对real love &Ms Right 也有着自己的执着,而他爸的外遇行为伤了他的心,不仅是对他妈的不忠,也打击了他对real love 美好的梦想 joey 说的 a stand-up guy 应该是指一个能站得起来,靠得住的堂堂男子汉,能勇敢面对的人
go the distance 美国传统词典 “To carry a course of action through to completion.”
另外Babylon上的解释如下“fishish the race, complete the course”
例句为“If Mat begins a project, he'll go the distance---he'll complete it.”
【114】The One With The Candy Hearts 我爱CHANDLER's 1.Woman: Hi, Ross.Ross: Hey.(stutters something incoherent)Chandler: Come on, Ross, you gotta get back in the game here, ok? 【117】The One With Two Parts, Part 2
1.you'd be starin' at the business end of a hissy fit.
have a hissy fit 意思是因为一些事情(通常是小事)而发彪,生气(freak out)
【118】The One With All The Poker 1.On Poker The One With All The Poker
(Poker night is a night during which several people gather to play poker. For example: Are you going to come over for my poker night? It's Wednesday and we're starting at 8:00.)
monica说的“No blinds, everybody ante”中,ante和blinds都是下注的方式。
跟不跟是“in or out”,不玩了就说“I fold.”,我跟着你下注,“I am seeing you,I’ll see a bet。”Raise表示提高赌注,在一个limit game中(赌注有上限), 通常是raise the bet to the limit.Call是与对方的注持平(match a bet)如:“I’m calling you.”
一手牌(hand)比大小时,four of kind>full house>flush>straight。
play for high stakes ——to risk a lot of money in a game
bluff —— to pretend you have better cards than you really do in a game of poker
2.Rachel: Settle what? Chandler: The...Jamestown colony of Virginia. You see, King George is giving us the land, so...Jamestown —— a town, established in 1607, in the U.S.state of Virginia which was the first town built by English people who went to live in North America
3.Monica: Yeah, I know.He can get really competitive.Phoebe: Ha.Ha, ha.Monica: What? Phoebe: Oh, hello, kettle? This is Monica. You're black.)
A:There's an old saying: “It's like the pot calling the kettle black.” It was coined when most pots and pans were made of iron and, therefore, were, black. It means that you're accusing someone of something that really is reflective of you--much like “It takes one to know one.” Does that help?--From leeni 详解:古语有云,“It's like the pot calling the kettle black.” 意思是,你在嘲讽别人时,其实自己也一样,就好像说,“It takes one to know one”,彼此彼此。
4.It's gotta be like chips, or dip, or pretz..
5.little playthings with yarn? 接ROSS的who makes me..
6.Could you want her more?
7.Dee, the sarcastic sister from Whats Happening ROSS明知道CHAN在说RACH,还装傻问是谁(Who?),CHAN就说,是Dee,“Whats Happening ”里面哪个犀利的小妹妹。
Cross-Eyed Mary 【119】The One Where The Monkey Gets Away 1.suck-fest 就是suck,In Joey's opinion the movie “sucked” or was not enjoyable. In fact, it was a fest(ival)of unenjoyable.2.chick-flick A movie(flick)made almost exclusively to appeal to women(chicks). This is why the two boys thought it sucked.3.clunky Clumsy in form or manner;awkward:

【120】The One With The Evil Orthodontist 1.personal ad
3.if I'm hogging the ball too much you just jump right in there and take a couple punches because I'm telling you, this feels great.hogging the ball 指双打时强打同伴的球,rach 是把 barry 说成 the ball,“如果我强着骂他/揍他了,你也不用有什么顾虑,上去给几拳,很爽的”
【121】The One With The Fake Monica 1.popes into a volkswagen
Joey: How do you get a monkey into a zoo? Chandler: I know that one!...No, that's Popes into a Volkswagen.
Actually, yesterday I asked one of my western friends about your question.According to him, there's no such a punchline in western countries.Apparently, it's just another improvised joke from Chandler. You know how contextual, cynical and dry his jokes could be.And by the way, my friend also told me some funny fact that in their culture, there is often a joke about “How can you get a ____ inot a volkswagen....” So, if you really want to mention the original meaning, I think probably this is the original shape of Chandler's joke.2.Holden McGroin 实际上就是那意思,holding my groin的谐音,外国人造了许多假名字,有的搞笑,有的dirty..3.'and, my, dead, moher, says, you, are, it' 'it'在这里指代'(the)partner' 4.flame boy, pheo给joey的名字,这个名字给人gay的感觉,下面这个小家伙也叫flameboy
5.my Curious George doll is no longer curious
Curious George is a children's book written by Margret and Hans Rey.
【122】The One With The Ick Factor 1.frame of graft,不是frame of graft.是frame of Reference。
2.That was gonna be my opener.OPENER是开场白。
【123】The One With The Birth 1.mucus plug是一种能堵住宫颈口的粘液,以避免细菌什么的进入子宫,伤害胎儿,ross说passed the mucus plug,是指产程发动时,mucus plug就会伴随血液流出来,这个过程也叫bloody show,也就是快生了。
2.You don't stop for chunky. 3.used to have those bumper stick Bumper sticker(rom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.)A bumper sticker is a message attached to the bumper of vehicle to get attention of others. They can be political or humorous, may or promote a or attack a particular stand on any issue. 【124】The One Where Rachel Finds Out 1.Joey: Well, it's like, last night, I couldn't do the thing that usually makes me great. So I had to do all this other stuff. And the response I got...man, oh man, it was like a ticker tape parade!Chandler: Yes, I know, as it happens my room is very very close to the parade route.joey
A ticker-tape parade is a parade event, held in a downtown urban setting, allowing the jettison of large amounts of shredded paper products from nearby buildings onto the parade route, creating a triumphal effect by the snowstorm like flurry. The term originated in New York City and is still most closely associated with it.The term ticker-tape refered originally to the use of the paper output of ticker tape machines, which were remotely-driven devices used in brokerages to provide updated Stock Market quotes.Nowadays, the paper product are largely waste office paper that has been cut using conventional shredders. In New York City, ticker-tape parades are not annual events but are reserved for special occassions. The first such parade was in October 1886 and was a spontaneous event following the dedication of the Statue of Liberty.Soon afterwards, city officials realized the utility of such events and began to hold them on triumphal occassions, at first only for extraordinary events, such as the return of Theodore Roosevelt from his safari in Africa.Up through the 1950s, the were commonly given to any visiting head of state, but the 1960s, following the assassination of John F.Kennedy, they became increasingly rare are generally reserved now for space exploration triumphs, military honors and sports championships. The section of lower Broadway through the Financial District that serves as the parade route for these events is colloquially called the Canyon of Heros.2.hammerhead 笨蛋
