摘要：诗歌翻译一向是翻译中的难题，“信”、“达”、“雅”兼备的原则可说对翻译有特殊意义。唐朝杜牧的《清明》诗是一首千百年来传诵不断的好诗，当代不少翻译名家都曾翻译此诗。本文将从诗歌翻译的原则出发，对《清明》诗的几个译本进行对比赏析，分析“清明”、“牧童”、“路上行人”、“酒家”的译法。

一、作品简介及综述
唐朝杜牧写了一首《清明》诗，诗文如下： 清明时节雨纷纷，路上行人欲断魂； 借问酒家何处是，牧童遥指杏花村。
杜牧，与晚唐诗人李商隐齐名，被称为“小李杜”，是一位既悲叹自己生不逢时又立志报国、力挽晚唐颓废之势的有识之士，对已故40余年的一代名将郭子仪充满了敬仰之情。因此这位陕西人20多岁便出游各地，体察民情，在他途径名酒产地杏花村时，写下了这首千古传诵、妇孺皆知的题为《清明》的诗。《清明》诗中的“行人”却人在他乡，孤独凄凉，又春雨绵绵不绝，增添了“行人”莫名的烦乱和惆怅。行人打听哪儿有喝酒的地方，春雨中的牧童便指点出远处的一片杏花林，结句诗意悠远、清新、明快。
翻译家刘重德提出“信达切”（faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness）的翻译标准。“信”指信于原文内容（to be faithful to the content of the original）；“达”指具备原文一样的表现力（to be as expressive as the original）“切”;指尽可能切近原文风格（to be as close
【1】to the original style as possible）。现让我们试赏析《清明》的几种翻译版本。
二、译文的计较和赏析
由于此诗的文学价值很高，很多学者均曾翻译过此诗。此文选取杨宪益、戴乃迭（以下简称杨译）、许渊冲（以下简称许译）以及吴钧陶（以下简称吴译）的三份译文略加分析。
（一）关于“清明”的翻译
首先，就目前来看，对标题“清明”的翻译，所能找到的英译文有以下十多种：The Pure Brightness Day ,The Day of Mourning for the Dead ,The Mourning Day ,All Souls’ Day ,All Souls’ Festive Day ,Clear and Bright ,Pure Brightness , the Qingming Festival ,Day of Tomb-Worship ,Spring Festival和The Late Spring Festival Day。虽说译法有如此之多，但不能说是比较理想的翻译，若用festive或festival来翻译，总觉得给别人一种喜庆的感觉，但是清明节众所周知都是一个祭奠先人的悲伤节日，这当然与本诗的意境不相符合，而许渊冲和吴钧陶在此则分别译为The Mourning Day、The Pure Brightness Day.虽对比译为festival好多了，但是这还是具有我国传统文化色彩，对付此翻译就需要做出大篇幅的解释了，然而这又不利为诗歌的翻译，文化隔阂也没有消除，对于英译文读者仍然带来阅读困难。对于杨宪益，戴乃迭的译的In the Rainy Season of Spring，也仍然突出不了清明节这特殊的悲伤的一天，不过一个Rainy则译的意化，对比别人译的All Souls’ Day 已经很好了，若译为All Souls Day，则指十一月二日“万灵节”。该节日为罗马天主教为亡灵祈祷超度的节日，这与我国上坟扫墓的清明节相比，宗教色彩太浓，在时间上也有不同，也只有在纪念死者这一点上相似，所以综合而言，这三位翻译家译的已经相当好了。
（二）关于“牧童”的翻译
一说起牧童，中国人的脑海中就浮现出一副水墨画，世代流传的《清明》中“牧童遥指杏花村”，既给“断魂”的“行人”指明了方向，也让他找到了心灵的归宿。此后，在历代诗人们的诗作中，不断出现牧童形象。牧童引领隐居归退的诗人们寻找精神家园，因此称为有着特定含义的文学意象。正因为这个形象所带来的各种联想，在《清明》里，带出一片生机及春意的除了“杏花村”之外，“牧童”的出现也起着重要的作用，因此，“牧童”一词的翻译也值得好好斟酌。三个译本中，杨译是shepherd boy，许译是cowherd，吴译是cowboy。
经查字典【2】，shepherd boy ：牧羊孩，cowherd：放牧的，cowboy：骑马牛仔（由指美国西部骑着马看管牛群的人，代表了一种美国典型的个人主义和自由精神），对比这三种译法，很显然cowboy与《清明》诗中的牧童风马牛不相及，想必当英文读者读到此翻译时脑子里所产生的意象就是美国那种向往自由的文化精神，这与作者所构造出清明节的悲伤意象相悖，为免引起读者的错误联想，笔者认为这个词并不适合用来翻译牧童。Shepherd boy虽是指牧羊，但与中国牧童相比却比较中性，没有意境氛围，也无法表达出作者要表达出的那种情感，但是也不会带来什么不符合的联想，总体而言比较合适。Cowherd的词意不差，但所指可能是青年人，甚至是中年人，则不及加上boy后的意思与原文那么贴近，总体而言杨译在这个牧童上翻译的比较好。
（三）关于“路上行人”翻译
对于“路上行人”这一词的翻译，有以下几种：“I”，“the mourner”，“the men and women”，“pedestrians”，“travelers”，这里的译文一为吴译，译文二为许译，译文五为杨译，我认为无论是用“travelers along the road”还是用“the mourner”都与此诗的意境显得有些不大关联，可以说，翻译好“路上行人欲断魂”是关系到整个语篇是否具有连贯性的关键所在，在这一点上，译文一和译文二都翻译的不够成功，然而看看吴译，他的英译文不仅在语篇的连贯性方面做的很成功，而且在意、音、形三方面同原文具有较高程度的相似。特别突出的一点是：吴译有和原诗同样的韵式，但显得自然，无因韵害义之毛病。
（四）关于“酒家”翻译
对于“酒家”一词的翻译，杨译tavern，许译wineshop，吴译public house。对于杨译，笔者认为不是很恰当，因为“tavern”一词偏古老，而且主要为“客栈”之意思，给人印象好像是在传达行人要投宿的意思，而非欲借酒消除心中的哀愁之意。许译使用“wineshop”一词比杨译要好，但吴译使用的“public house”更为确切。
三、总结
我们知道，外国诗歌的译介对中国文学的意义，与其他体裁的外国作品之译介不一样，给中国文学带来的影响是革命性的。它促生了中国新诗，从诗体、语言以及内容素材等方面，赋予了中国诗歌前所未有的自由，使得中国的诗人们能够以当下的语言，写出当下的情感和思想，使得诗歌更具有历史感和生命力。那么，笔者也希望中国的诗歌翻译成外文，从文化交流，从艺术美感，从语言表达上也能为外国的文字文化及外国诗歌带来革命性的影响，笔者希望中国诗歌翻译能够继续探索翻译的奥秘。参考文献：
